Not your Granny's baggies
Baggies are just so darn versatile. Now, I'm mostly using them for portion control - I separate cookies, crackers, snacks into one-serving-size baggies. Then, when I'm putting my lunch together, or need a snack on a go, I just grab a baggie and I'm on my way. I also use them for packing and storage, too. The possibilities are endless.
Given my love for baggies, you can imagine my joy in discovering these adorably-designed baggies at Spoon Sisters. I just can't wait to get my snacks in them so I can show them off!

Cook Up Some Fun with Polka Dot Frying Pans
Making dinner after a long day at work can be a drag, especially when you're using boring, beat-up cookware you inherited from Mom. But nothing says cooking with gas better than these colorful frying pans by Bialetti. Express your culinary creativity and liven up nightly meals with these heavy gauge, 11" non-stick pieces, featuring a porcelain finish with a choice of blue, yellow, or pink. I'm dying to buy one. Maybe then, even clean-up won't seem so bad!

Even Girls Who Shop Sometimes Cook!
Even though I love to shop, I do sometimes find the time to cook. No, I am definitely not a chef but I still like pretty dishes/cookware! I used to think shopping for cookware was boring until I came across these funky, exciting utensils at Plum Party. This is definitely the place to find "fashionable" kitchen accessories.Even their plates are cute. Can plates be considered cute? I think SO!

Easy does it with Salad Shaker & more!
When I saw this Salad Shaker by Fit & Fresh I knew my mornings just got easier! Let me explain...
Trying to eat healthier (keyword-trying), I have been preparing salads to take with me to work. Here lies the problem->I can't fit the salad, the bottle of dressing and silverware into my lunch bag. I end up putting it all in a plastic shopping bag and by the time I get to work my silverware is poking through, my salad is a jumbled mess and my bottle of dressing gets left at work! Not to mention that I use a lot of dressing (not quite the recommended 2 tbsp).
The Fit & Fresh Salad Shaker has a place for silverware, one serving of dressing, and an ice pack that keeps your salad cool for up to 6 hours! It's an all-in-one, not bad! Can't figure out how one container can do all that? Check out this diagram that details all that the Fit & Fresh Salad Shaker can do! Available for purchase at Linens 'n Things.

Think spring with daisies from Williams-Sonoma
While browsing the Williams-Sonoma sale section recently, I discovered this Daisy Maryanne Pan. First introduced in the US in 1921, it was designed to bake light cake shells for everything from fresh berries to creamy custards to delicious puddings!
With all the snow we're been getting lately here in the Northeast, I saw this and had visions of Spring cakes :-)
It's on sale for $19.99...makes a perfect gift for daisy lovers!

Your guide to being BPA-free
Over the past year, mom bloggers and environmental sites have been buzzing about the BPA toxin that is found in #7 plastic containers from water & baby bottles to storage containers. As a new mom, I sought out BPA free baby bottle options (luckily the Playtex Drop-Ins are safe and Maddy loves them) and have also been more conscious about how I heat my food by using glass Pyrex instead of plastics. Even though there are a new flock of "steam" friendly frozen vegetable packages, I transfer them to glass and get the same yummy result. Ever since I saw a news report about the BPA in the frozen dinner platic containers, that was the start of more homemade cooking for me! It's a simple effort to live a more healthy lifestyle.
One of the trusted plastic storage container companies that we all love has also addressed the BPA toxin issue with their products. Rubbermiad has assembled a list on their website of the products which contain BPA and DO NOT. The number of items that are BPA-free well outnumber those that are not and luckily I don't have to dispose of the containers I already have.
If you're not educated on the BPA toxin issue, start now. Even though there are 2 sides to each argument, it's easy to go BPA-free. A lot of stores and companies are getting educated and offering consumers the option and even glass is coming back into fashion (at least with baby bottles). Why not be healthier when the price is right and your options are endless?

If you cannot weight to eat, get a food scale
I have been doing Weight Watchers since August 2008 and have lost 26 pounds, making my total post-baby weight loss: 43lbs! I never measured my food as accurately as I do now and I even have 2 sets of measuring cups for dry and wet food. But there are other tools and appliances that have been a major help in my weight loss journey and I want to share one of them with those of you who are on the same path.
The best item you can purchase, in addition to measuring cups, is a food scale. I have a Salter digital scare that measures in ounces, pounds, grams and kilograms. A food scale is great for measuring ground meat, cuts of fish and beef or dry pasta. Depending on your budget, Salter offers simple 16-ounce scales for around $6 or you can go top of the line for $100. If you like to coordinate your appliances, the scales come in glass, stainless steel and colors like blue, pink or red(that would go perfectly with all of my red stuff!).
With a food scale, you can enjoy a comfort food like hamburger meat, but by measuring it according to the point system, you keep from going overboard on the portion size.

Lose Weight Eating
You know how they say when you get married you put on weight because you're happy? I think that's a bunch of bull. The truth is when I was single, dinner consisted of a bowl of cereal or an omelet with toast, but now I feel the need to go all Leave It to Beaver and cook up a three-course meal for my husband.
Thankfully I found out about Slimware, a line of super cute plates that puts portion control right into the design. You simply fill the appropriate space on the plate with the appropriate food (ie: protein, carb, and veggies) and voilĂ , no more over-eating. Now I can sit down to a meal with my husband, without eating as much as he does. And yes, I know I could have done that without the plates, but if we all had better self-control, how would McDonald's stay in business?
