Find Bliss in a Blowout Sale
Monday, August 18 through Sunday the 24th is the Bliss Blowout Sale at their spas; if you're shopping online at blissworld.com, the sale runs through Friday the 21st. Now is your chance to save up to 70% on some of Bliss's best selling products! If you aren't familiar with bliss, here's what they have to say for themselves:
"Our countless hours of spa-side tension-nixing and skin-fixing are the basis of Bliss--be it expert esthetician advice, cutting-edge concoctions or trailblazing treatments. We've stockpiled some serious science savvy. We've been there, buffed that. We've tried and tested so you know we can be trusted. In short, we've done our 'foam-work'. (And you get to sit back and soak up the results.)"
I'll be shopping for some lemon+sage body butter (great moisturizer, wonderful light fresh scent) and some baggage handler. I may even pick up a few other treats as gifts for the holidays, if I can trust myself to not steal them!

No more makeup meltdowns! Thanks IcyBag!
I live in the South, where it can get ungodly hot in the summer. Even in the winter, the inside of a car can heat up, causing one to drive around with their windows down in 40 degree weather. In the past, if I need to pack makeup in my car for traveling or touch-ups, I had to pack it all in a lunch cooler so it doesn't melt.

I am addicted to Black Mountain Gallery. Just say no to twee
I was at my favorite jewelery store last weekend picking up an order, and I was reminded of my latest purchase there - the large Fayeth" pendant. I am usually not into hearts; I find them twee. This one? Not twee. Just lovely.
[Editor's note: I just HAD to look up twee because I had no idea what it was. Wiktionary defines is as "overly quaint, dainty, cute or nice."]
All jewelry from Black Mountain Gallery is handmade in Chapel Hill, NC. Most of it is (and all of my pieces are) sterling silver, but they also have gold and have recently added copper. (I covet these copper feather earrings.) The store has two 50% off sales each year where everything is half-price, but there are 50% off web specials year-round.

Laundry detergent can be cool!
OK, so it’s really not that cool, but it is eco-trendy. (Especially for me- it’s made right here in North Carolina.) Charlie’s Soap has converted this former Tide girl. They say:
“Our Laundry Powder is a revolutionary approach to laundry care. It does not cover up stains and odors with scents and brighteners - it really cleans. It is made with a unique blend of biodegradable coconut-based detergents and high-grade, completely soluble, Green River washing soda.”
Because there are no dyes or additives, it’s great for sensitive skin- even babies. You don’t have to use much- approximately a tablespoon of the powder. Their 3-lb bag of powder cleans 80 loads. (That’s smaller than a bag of flour!). The cost works out to $0.16 a load. Tide is over $0.20 per load.
This stuff really works! My clothes are clean, with no stiff residues or cloying scents. My co-worker (who told me about it) has four kids, and has found that it even gets out red Kool-Aid. I do find that I need to throw a dryer sheet in to prevent static cling, however.
Oh, and if you find you are sensitive to the chemicals used in all-purpose cleaners as I am, their cleaner is fume-free.
