For My Mom

MD7_186343_outdoor.jpg
My Mother, thank goodness, is so easy to shop for. I'm getting her this cute tote with a gift certificate from her favorite garden center. The tote is made of easy-cleaning and fast-drying green and tan nylon canvas. It also features six exterior pockets contain all the essentials: stainless-steel fork, two trowels with bamboo handles and two pairs of gardening shears. It can also be be embroidered, so I'm going to put Kath because she is forever calling me from work in her "work voice" saying "Hi Kris, this is Kath" to which I allays go "umm Mom?" then we laugh (I guess you have to be there!)

I am nuts for this bird feeder

ACORN.gifI am so excited for spring. It had been a long, rough winter for us New Englanders. I have already started planning my garden; beating the rushes and buying my window boxes, planters and bird feeders.

In my search for the perfect planter I stumbled upon this acorn bird feeder from Anthropologie.  Too cute! I can't wait to hang it from my deck in hopes of attracting a blue jay or sparrow. Spring has finally sprung so check out their other adorable outdoor and garden accessories.

Have one on me!

logo.gif This is truly one of the BEST ideas I've seen in a while. Buy your friend a drink. It is as simple as it sounds. All you need to know is either their address; for a gift card, or their cell number; for a code. And there you have it, you just bought a round or few for your friend! Great way to celebrate a promotion, new job, birthday or any day, for as little or as much as you'd like!

Three Little Wonders

P124716_hero.jpgCheck out the Three Little Wonders kit at Sephora.com. It rocks, really. I cannot recommend this product enough. My skin is tight, clear and evened out. I love the Sheer Transformation Renewing Creme the most. My skin feels so soft after.

The Truth Serum Collagen Booster feels like its tightening my face instantly! I am 32 and this has been my first step to anti aging. I've had this kit almost a month and everything looks still seems almost full, I imagine it will last three to four months, so the $65 stings a little less.

Create your own with Starbucks!

602310.jpgMy hubby has a super long commute and likes to take tea with him for the trip. He had been toting around a gas station tumbler I received for free w/a fill up. It was not cute, the logo was fading and it was bright yellow! He did not care, why? He is a boy. BUT thats why he married me, to spiffy it all up. Men would still be living in caves, me thinks, if it weren't for us!

So, the perfect answer is Starbucks "create your own tumbler". It was so EASY and fun, and just $10.95! He's been using it for a month or so and we can even clean it in the dishwasher and the photo stays dry. yay!

Big Pimp'n in my Chevy Malibu

67_501Q.gifWhen my husband bought an SUV I adopted his VW golf and it turned out to be a mistake. It was a little loud, a little clunky, a little stiff and way too much standard (I'm getting too old for a stick).  So I've been shopping for a car for about six months or so. I wanted a roomy mid-size sedan that was quiet and comfortable and if you read my profile; I am cheap, well frugal. That makes things REALLY difficult. I drove every 2004-2006 used sedan that was under 15k. I fell is love with a 2002 Jaguar x-type and my husband said NO!

So whats a girl to do? Look harder.

However; whilst looking, I got into a minor accident putting the search on hold for a month. I always tell myself "everything happens for a reason" and this time proved so. The 2008 Chevy Malibu was rolled out at my local dealership. Then I saw it up close and personal at a local mall and then I read the reviews.

This vehicle has it all: style, value, performance, economy, and for the first time in many years, the promise of pride in your purchase. - intellichoice

112_0711_05z+2008_chevrolet_malibu+interior_view.jpgMost read like this. So I marched down to my local Chevy dealership for a test drive (if you happen to be in the area ask for my man Marc S. and tell him Krista sent ya). It was love at first drive. I leased the car for the same amount I budgeted for a used car. Unfortunately, I am not an automotive expert but I'll tell you my little peanut gallery thoughts. My favorite thing is it's quiet and I'm talking ridiculously quiet . I do not hear trucks,  the swishing of cars passing in the slush/rain, wind, engine noise, etc outside this car. The interior is so PRETTY; it is simple w/clean lines nice lighting and every button is placed appropriately.

I opted for the "cheaper" 4-cylinder base model  (around 20K) that comes standard with everything including automatic, cruise control, traction control, OnStar free for a year and an XM radio w/a free three month subscription (80's and 90's programed in within the first minute, of course). Seriously!

Now, If I could just find a way to work out of my car.

I'm a little teapot

danforthpewter_1980_12078767.gifThe delicate detail on our English Teapot Tea Infuser just puts one in the crumpet mood! A great gift for the tea drinker, enough loose tea fits in the stainless steel mesh ball for a pot, or use less for a cup. Giftboxed with instructions.

I was lucky enough to be gifted an oil lamp from Danforth Pewter, the craftsmanship is amazing and the designs are stunning. So I poked around the site to see what else they have. tons of unique items for home, office or gifts. I particularly like the teapot Infuser, so cute!

Cool movies on the cheap with Netflix!

netflix.gifIn case you didn't know (because I didn't), Netflix sells their used DVDs. This is a perfect gift for my father who is impossible to buy for. He has a HUGE DVD collection, I would say its sort of a hobby for him, so this has been a great find for me. Shipping is free so costs are low and DVDs are from $5.99 - $9.99. I just bought four movies for $32, along with some pajamas, popcorn and chocolate he is going to be one happy Pop!

Seriously, what would we do without Sephora?

P193315_hero.jpgI posted about it last year as well and here it is again, in all its splendid glory. I bought this for two people last year because I had no clue what they liked or wanted. Sephora's scent sampler certificate set is perfection in a gift.

Samples include: Aquolina Pink Sugar, Badgley Mischka, Guerlain My Insolence, Hard Candy Fragrance, Hilary Duff With Love...Hilary Duff, Juicy Couture, Philosophy Inner Grace, Stella McCartney Stella, Vera Wang Princess, and Givenchy Very Irresistable Givenchy Sensual Eau de Parfum, plus an added gift of a refillable atomizer.

How it works:
1. Purchase the Fragrance Gift Certificate - For Her either as a gift, or for yourself.
2. Sample the fragrances and choose a favorite.
3. Fill in the enclosed voucher.
4. Bring the voucher in to your local Sephora store and redeem it for the fragrance you've chosen.

Please note:
1. The voucher is redeemable at Sephora stores only (not valid for online use).
2. Only original vouchers will be honored (photocopies will not be accepted).
3. The voucher cannot be replaced if lost or stolen
4. The Fragrance Gift Certificate - For Her is not available for sale or redemption in Canada.

I could justify this quilt if I were single...

Thumbnail image for P10531294.jpg

Or maybe if I had a pre-teen daughter. I love this Bloom Quit Set. I don't care that it's fall, the pinks and greens are so fun! Perhaps I can buy two twin size and sew them together? My husband would be thrilled *wink*.

I have recently developed a taste for quilts for two reasons; (1) I am over thirty and (2) designers are making them funky and cute.

Overstock (or as I like to call "The O") has a ton of discounted quilts, comforters and duvets for this upcoming chilly willy winter. O! and shipping is FREE on bedding!

Go from pastey to glowing with Too Faced Snow Bunny

Thumbnail image for P110409_hero.jpg

On a recent Sunday morning I took my mother to the mall (she doesn't drive). She wanted perfume and I suggested we go to Sephora.

"Whats Sephora?" she asked.

*blink* *blink* *BLINK* I replied.

So I grabbed her arm and lead the way to cosmetic heaven. Her face, when she walked in, was priceless. Needless to say, we were there for over an hour.

I took this time to try everything, poke at it, wear it, rub it, smell it... then I stumbled upon the Too Faced cosmetic display and started playing with their "Caribbean In A Compact" line and tried "Snow Bunny". Loved it. However, I think I loved the Teddy Bear Hair Kabuki Brush more! So I got both. My mother looked at me when leaving and says "why do you look so good!? I need to KNOW what you used!"

I have been using "Snow Bunny" for about two months not and get a ton of compliments. I also use it for eyeshadow!

I'm hitched

M771_128.jpgI am hitched and have some fabulous stuff to review. I love products so instead of hiring someone I decided to do my hair and make-up myself, that way, I can keep all my own products. First was some unbelievable foundation I found. I have freckles but didn't want to cover them, I didn't want to look painted; I wanted to be me just a little brighter! MAC makes a great lightweight foundation that felt great on my skin.
P190032_hero.jpg
For my lips, well that was a bit of a challenge. I have a really hard time liking any color on my lips. After trying  about twenty different shades and textures I found Stila Long Wear Lip Color; exquisite. It feels awesome, not like most long wear lipsticks that are thick, tacky or cakey.
41WA5MR7M2L._AA280_.jpg
Next was the hard part, my hair. I wanted to leave my hair down but had no idea how to get that cool wavy beach hair. A friend recommended the Revlon Hair Waver. I'll be honest when I opened this up I was apprehensive; it looks like an assault weapon! My bff came over and did a test run and it worked fabulously. Combined with Redken Hair starch It created just the look I was hoping for.
yhst-46865312611140_1971_1332357208.gif

Lastly was the fragrance. Stacked Style Carnival Crush.  Sent of  peaches and Jasmine, light, fruity and clean. It's my favorite.

Why didn't I think of the Bosom Button!?

toon.jpgThere are a myriad reasons why I need to pin the top of my blouse. But the biggest reason (besides my boobs) is that I am five feet tall, therefore my tops are cut too low. Cute if I am going out with my fiance; not cute if I am going to the office or a meeting. Normally I'd use a safety pin, a paper clip, elastics, or I'll wear a tank top under my blouse. I'm thankful that the bosom button was invented, unfortunately, i just wish it were me.

Old Navy: skimmers and flatsNo kidding. My mother said so.

My new obsession is skimmers and flats. Very comfortable, cute, so many different colors and Old Navy makes it so affordable to buy a few pairs a time! I love that they are versatile; I've worn them with dress capri pants, jeans or cute little summer skirts. And since I have an aversion to the flip-flop (which they have a ton!) they are a summer must for me!

Beijo: You'll want to kiss these bags!

Beijo Bags: The UptownI discovered the Beijo bags at a shopping expo last month. The colors and styling are very unique and they come in so many shapes and sizes. I instantly fell in love with the "The Uptown" bag. The only catch is on order to get one of these fancy bags is to either have a party or go to an event where they have a booth. Both are worth it, since the prices range between $60 to $100 (with the exception of the Business Class)!

Wicked Sticky Designs are Wicked Awesome!

love laugh live.jpgI wanted something for my kitchen that was unique but not busy. A friend of mine passed along this link for Wicked Sticky Designs. Perfect! I wanted Live, Laugh, Love but I like to be difficult, so thru the wonders of the internet I got it translated into Gaelic; Beatha, gaire, grá ("Life, laughter, love") . I asked Nicole if she could do it and she said no problem!

No mess, no commitment, no painting! It is that easy. Think of any saying or design and she'll send you a mock-up design for your approval before its made. Prices are based on complexity of design, size, how many colors are involved... plus tax & shipping. (5% + $5 for shipping) The piece I had made was $35. Generally, 25" long x 3" high is about $25. I'm so happy with the way it came out, I'm thinking of other designs for my walls!

Preppy-licious

Initial Reaction - sterling silver engraved pendantsI came across this pendant at a vendor shopping extravaganza. Erin and I immediately fell in love with Initial Reactions products and both purchased a necklace. The pendant is heavy weight sterling silver with your initial that may also have a special message or date added to the reverse side. I love that you can also choose whether or not you want a tie or toggle ribbon and the ribbon selection is endless. One piece of silver offers so many options it's almost to hard too choose.

Where else can you get eight entrees in two hours?

dishLogo.gifWell I have to say (without trying an entrée yet) Lets Dish was awesome. Let's Dish is an innovative store where you can make (or pick up) dishes designed to be frozen and cooked when you need them. It's set up like buffet stations but with ingredients, there were 20 stations (dinners). The recipe is there and you put it all together in bags to freeze. They allow you to split the meals and even give you the recipe split (after a long day at work, I was grateful). This is especially good considering there are six servings per dinner.

My friend Erin and I both chose four meals, we split them and now we both have 8 dinners that serve 3 (i.e. two portions for the boys cos they eat a lot). The portions sizes are really decent, not what I expected. They also give you a few cooking options like grilling, baking, crocking etc. Everything was fresh, clean and the people that worked there were super nice and wicked helpful. I thought it was a little pricey at first when we paid $96 each, but now that I realize that we have two weeks worth of dinners, that's just $48 a week, which is about the same if not less than I would spend on a normal week for entrées. And you can make 4, 8 or 12 dinners! Oh and if you can get a big enough group together you can have a private party.

Pear Threads = Fabulous

I bought a handmade bag from Pear Threads in Dec 05. I was a little apprehensive about buying this because I'm pretty rough on my handbags. But the bag was just too cute and so unique to pass up, plus it was whispering "buy me. I said!" So I did. Best handbag I have ever owned. The quality is outstanding. After a year and a half of using it off and on, it still looks like this. And I get so many compliments! They also offer clutches, messenger bags, headbands and belts too. Go at it!
