Try Alcyone Tannat Dessert Wine, you'll never forget it!
I took the ever lovely Megan (this site's founder), out to dinner for her birthday last Monday night. Our first stop was Ivy, a lovely new casual Italian place near Downtown Crossing in Boston. Unfortunately, Megan and I have been spoiled by a most delicious cheese plate at Todd English's Tuscany and by Cobblestone's macaroni and cheese, so what we ordered, while good, wasn't "as good as"!
Never fear, we headed to The Four Seasons Hotel for drinks and dessert at The Bar at Aujourd'hui and, as always, were warmly welcomed (and we weren't dressed to the nines either). The service is no less than spectacular, as you would probably expect AND it's quiet, no annoying ringtones (except, unfortunately, mine, but only for a second!) or loud voices.
The birthday girl ordered a Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé, accompanied by Grand Marnier Crème Anglaise, with a glass of Alcyone Tannat Dessert Wine. Oh, were we in for a surprise! That wine has the most incredible taste!!! It's sweet, yes, but not cloyingly so. It tastes of cocoa, honey, cinnamon, cloves and herbs; after you have a glass, you will feel calm and content! We both immediately fell in love with it and in fact, I'll be off looking for a bottle of it tonight! Order a bottle of it online at corpwines.com
Do give it a try if you can find a bottle...if you don't like it, you can mail it directly to me :-) For those of you lucky enough to live near Boston, give The Bar at Aujourd'hui a try, if you haven't already...you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Editors Note: I just had a brilliant idea - an A Girl Must Shop get together at The Bar at Aujourd'hui! Who's in?

I'd be up for it, but I don't live anywhere near Boston. Like the blog, though! |

Wow! I echo your sentiments completely regarding both the outstanding service at the Aujourd'hui and the delectable Alcyone Tannat Dessert Wine. I visited the Aujourd'hui on 8/7/2007, and the sommelier, Brick Loomis, and the rest of the personable, capable staff provided me and my friend with an experience that truly was worth the $300 that we dropped. While the first four courses were memorable, the best part was the final course--the Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé coupled with that amazing Alcyone! Now, you may be wondering how this resident of Charlottesville, Virginia, happened upon your blog. Well, it just so happens that I was searching for a case of that wonderful wine... if you are ever in Central Virginia, stop by and have some with me! By the way, I love your city and can't wait to visit again! Hanover St. is the best! |

I am only stopping in to show support for these amazing Tanat based perfection. I normally never go for dessert wines as they do tend to be over baringly sweet and will almost always opt for scotch or cognac rather than any dessert. But I'm a mixologist at a restarant in Alexandria Virginia and the dessert wine served there is Alcyone. I tell you what, the day we sat down in that tasting and sampled the product, I couldn't keep my nose out of the glass, it's a huge nose and it is just as huge on the palate and it lasts for a very long time! I bought two bottles of the stuff right then and there! If any body is looking for a fantastic dessert wine, a great dessert wine, an unbelievable dessert wine - The Alcyone stands alone above all others I've tried. If this is one that strikes you and you are interested in other avenues, there is a Spanish red dessert wine called Alceno that has this striking blueberry compote on the nose and palate the way chocolate bursts out of the Alcyone. Just wanted to feed it back, this wine is catching on, we just need to let the rest of the world know about it! |

Love Alcyone, the best dark sweet dessert wine I have had as yet. I have a problem with acid reflux in drinking certain wines, not Alcyone. Plus, it goes great with dark chocolate. |
