Your friends will think they're fake!

Recently while chatting with a coworker I remarked at how long her eyelashes were:

Whitney: *blah blah blah work blah*
Me: Are those fake eyelashes?
Whitney: Oh no! I just started using this really great mascara. (She shows me the tube of The Dior DiorShow Unlimited mascara) It makes my lashes super-long and fabulous curl without nasty clumps
Me: Yeah, I hate clumps!
Whitey: Yeah, I only have to use two coats and look how full they are!
Me: *Googles Dior Diorshow Unlimited* Yikes! $23! I usually pay less than $10 at the drugstore
Whitney: Yeah, me too, but I splurged and it's totally worth the money.
Me: hmmm, I might have to splurge too!
Whitney: Oh! Try the older Diorshow, too. it has a bigger brush to get all your lashes.
Me: I just might!

Goldie Lip Gloss

061014-goldie.jpgI am in love with this cute little lip gloss from Goldie (found at Bath & Body Works). It's smaller than a normal sized lip gloss, but not by much. It had a normal sized wand and the gloss? Smells like chocolate! I got the red color and it's just the right amount of transparency. And at $7 you can't go wrong!

For Thanksgiving and Christmas and Birthdays and every holiday you can imagine!

Serving PlatterI don't know about you, but I love holiday-themed china. What I don't love is having to buy a new set for every holiday. I don't have a ton of storage space, either, which makes this interchangeable china by nora fleming a perfect solution.

The entire stock of serving pieces and place setting is entirely customizable. Every piece has a place to insert an interchangeable mini. The site sells a wide selection of these minis in a ton of different styles to fit every occasion and season.

Don't forget to take your vitamins

I love the fall; the beautiful leaves, the crisp chill in the air, apple pies, and colds. OK, maybe I don't love the colds of fall. This time of year is really tough on the immune system, it seems everyone has or has had that cold that's going around. Aren't you glad your immune system in in great shape? Thank goodness for vitamins! What? You don't take vitamins?

What your mom used to (and probably still) tells you, is right, vitamins are good for you. They give you the vitamins you need, which is especially important for those of us who don't follow the food pyramid, or can't stand green leafy vegetables.

I didn't take vitamins for the longest time, until I read that vitamins were also good for combatting PMS, in this book that my Doctor suggested. The book extolled the virtues of the effects of vitamins on PMS and highlighted a core list of vitamins known to help with PMS.

After doing much research, I found that GNC's Ultra Mega Women's vitamin is just about the most comprehensive vitamin out there. I've been taking them for years and I have to say my PMS and my immune system has improved. One word of caution for those who don't like swallowing big pills, these pills are pretty big and to top it off, you need to take two of them a day. Big pills don't bother me, though, and I don't have a problem taking this every night before bed. Also! Be sure to eat something before you take these, or them might not agree with your stomach. I find taking them before bed works really well for me.

Plump it up!

Haven't we all tried those lip plumping serums? Haven't we all been disappointed with the results? I thought so! I had just about given up on them until I got a free sample of Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme...and all I can say is WOW!!! Not only did it plump them up, but it reddened them just a bit too! You can even put lipstick over it after letting it sit for 5 or 10 minutes!

Now, they claim it's "formulated to Increase lip volume and plumpness permanently with continued use." I don't know about that, I've just started using it. But I'll surely let you know! In the meantime, try it for yourself. I'd suggest putting it on at bedtime the first time as it really is strong and really tingles!

07/13/06 - Movie Ticket
03/19/06 - Movie Ticket
03/07/06 - $149 Visa Gift Card

That's over $450 in prizes in less than two years, and all I do is use Blingo to search the Internet instead of Google or Yahoo. And the cool thing about Blingo is that you can refer your friends and if they win you win the same thing they do!

All you have to do is sign up:

Blingo

Then start searching!

TIPS: How to win on Blingo:

Make Blingo your homepage.
Then, when your browser opens up you can just type the name of the site that you want to visit and you're up and running.

  • (Internet Explorer) Make Blingo Your Home Page
    1. Go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options.
    2. See the box marked Home Page? Type "www.blingo.com" in the address box.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Now every time you open Internet Explorer or click on the "Home" icon, you'll go to Blingo!

  • (Firefox) Make Blingo Your Home Page
    1. The easiest way is to drag this link (Blingo home page) onto your "Home" button.
If that doesn't work, try this:
    1. On Windows, choose Options from the Tools menu. On a Mac, choose Preferences from the Firefox menu.
    2. Click the General category.
    3. See the box marked Home Page? Type "www.blingo.com" in the location box.
    4. Click OK.

Add Blingo to Your Search Box

  • (Internet Explorer 7) Add Blingo to your Search Box
You can easily add Blingo to the handy search box at the top of every Internet Explorer 7 window.

    1. Click this link to add Blingo to your list of search providers.
    2. Check the box to Make this my default search provider.
    3. Click Add Provider.
    4. Now when you type keywords into the search box and hit return, your search will go to Blingo!

  • (Firefox) Add Blingo to your Quick Search Box
You can easily add Blingo to the handy search box at the top of every Firefox window.

    1. Click this link to add Blingo to your list of providers.
    2. Select Blingo from the pull-down list in the search box.
    3. Now when you type keywords into the search box and hit return, your search will go to Blingo!
    4. If you'd like to remove Blingo from your list of search engines, just go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins (or on a Mac go to Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/...), remove blingo.src and blingo.gif, and restart Firefox.

Invite your friends!

Every time you win something on Blingo the person who invited you to Blingo wins something. Now if you invite someone to join and then join and they win, you win the same prize they do. That's why it pays to invite people, because the more people you invite and the more searching we all do, the more likely we all are to win!

Keep in mind that only the person who invited you wins the same prize as you. So if I invited you and you invited a friend and your friend wins, only you and your friend the the prize; not me. And if I win a prize, the people I invited don't win the same prize, only the person who invited me.

Use it for everything!

The first time I won a prize on Blingo I was searching for Wikipedia. Of course, I knew the address of wikipedia, but I just typed the word into Blingo to use it as a search because some days I don't have a whole lot to search for and I figure every search is one search closer to winning.

Do remember, however that only your first 25 searches of the day count. So it doesn't make a lot of sense to search just to try to win, just use it to go to different web sites and to search. That's how I win!

Sign up and start winning!

Then start searching!

Good Luck!

A Girl Must Vacay

Crowne Pointe InnI spent last weekend in Bliss. Well, actually I was in Provincetown, MA, but it felt like Bliss. My boyfriend and I spent the weekend at the Crowne Pointe Inn in Provincetown, MA and boy did we have a great time!

From beginning to end the experience was fabulous. The Inn was gorgeous and the location was perfect - right off Commercial Street - renowned for eclectic shopping and dining. On the second floor of a guest house adjacent to the main building, our room was cozy and nicely decorated. We had a huge, very tall four poster bed, complete with wooden steps to assist in getting in and out and the large bath featuring a large whirlpool tub.

On initial inspection of the room, we were delighted with a welcome gift including a letter of welcome, a chowder bowl and the Inn's famous clam chowder recipe. Wasting no time, we jumped right into the whirlpool bath which fit both of us with plenty of room to spare, so that it wasn't crowded even with the the Crowne Pointe Inn rubber ducky.

That evening we enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese hour choosing from a wide variety of wines, beer and an assortment of cheese, crackers and pastries. We no sooner sat down that we were engaged in a lovely discussion with another couple staying at the inn. This hour transformed the Inn from a hotel to a home - we felt really welcome and part of a family.

Crowne Pointe Inn - DiningOur package included dinner one night, which we enjoyed on our first night. Not only was the food amazing (my lobster ravioli was unlike anything I had ever tasted - with lots of fresh lobster meat and a tangy tomato sauce instead of a heavy cream that accompanies most lobster ravioli dishes), but the service was extremely friendly and impeccable. We even have a lively discussion with the couple seated next to us. We ended the meal with a decadent chocolate dessert which we had packaged up and brought back to the room.

Crowne Pointe Inn - Turn Down ServiceWhich brings us to turn-down service! We got back to our room and our bed was turned down and on our bed was a letter with the weather and menus for the next day as well as a sample of sleep balm. It's the little things that make it perfect!

The next morning we headed down to the complimentary breakfast, delighted to see a wide selection of foods including a daily special (eggs, bacon, and waffles) in addition to fruit, cereal, homemade granola, yogurt, fruit, pastries, toast, bagels, and muffins and your typical breakfast beverages.

Crowne Pointe Inn - SpaAlso part of our package, we enjoyed a couples massage after a long walk following breakfast. We felt pampered in robes and slippers and I nearly fell asleep on the warm soft massage table. How relaxing!

Turn-down service that night included a similar letter announcing eggs benedict for breakfast and left chocolates! Mmmm chocolate!

We ended our stay after breakfast (the eggs benedict were out of this world). The lady who checked us out was very nice and asked about our stay. She even gave me a little ducky to take home with me, as my boyfriend had mentioned that I fell in love with it.

I left the Crowne Pointe Inn with a great feeling, like I was leaving a friend's house after a weekend visit, looking forward to the next time.

Happy Holidays Mr. Squirrel!

061114-squirrel.jpgWhy on earth had I never discovered Anthropologie before? And here I am, the so-called goddess of shopping (queen, princess, where is my tiara!?) and I had never been to the site. I scribbled down the name while flipping through a magazine and then hopped onto the web site. Dude! This stuff is good!

How to pick just one item?! It was tough, but I did it! In honor of Christmas coming up and my boyfriend Jimbo (who Adores squirrels) I present the cutest ornament on the face of the earth! *bows*

And you know what the best part of theeees here ornament? It's not even red and green and obnoxiously Christmasy! Nope, it's mellow and cool. That little squirrel will soon find a permanent space in my house. How could anyone put it away with the Christmas ornaments!?

Save Money, Make Money, Shop Early!

I hate to brag, but I've got just about 60% of my holiday shopping done. I really love the holidays, I love to bake and wrap presents and enjoy them, but when I'm fighting traffic and dealing with Mr & Mrs Crankypants at the mall, the enjoyment goes out the window.

Click Here to Start Saving with ING DIRECT!How the heck did I get 60% of my holiday shopping done? Easy! I set up a holiday savings account with ING. I signed up online and have a certain amount deducted from my checking account every month and in October, I withdraw my holiday money and go to town. The malls are empty in October and I can get my shopping done lickety-split.

ING savings account. Not only is it flexible and allows me to set up automatic deductions, but there are a host of other benefits like:

  • No minimum deposit
  • No fees!
  • Incredible 4.40% APY (Dude, my savings account at the credit union only gave me 1% and that is considered good!)
  • 24 hour on-line account access
  • FDIC Insured

ING account? It takes a few days to withdraw my money. While this might seem like a pain in the butt, it's actually a benefit for me. If it takes me a few days to make a withdrawal, I'm less inclined to take my money out. So my money stays in my account and gains a healthy interest rate and when Christmas comes around, I don't have to worry about shopping paycheck to paycheck, I get all my spending money in one chunk and get it all done early.

Togetherness: It can be faked

I like to be prepared for anything. Don't you? Am I usually prepared for anything? Nope. I feel like I used to have everything so "together," but with work, friends, family and every other thing in my life, I just don't have it together anymore. Usually, I'm scrambling to find a safety pin or bugging my coworkers who do have it together for an asprin or Shout wipe. Well, scramble no more. Thanks to new reader and product suggester extraordinaire Cindy, I have discovered kits.

Whoever came up with these kits are brilliant! Sure, I could put these kits together, but would I have even thought about it? Hell no, I'm not THAT together. Thank goodness for the people of the world who do have it together. Today we honor you!

Safety Girl Roadside Emergency KitFor the car
"The Safety Girl Roadside Emergency Kit contains serious roadside emergency supplies like an emergency blanket, first aid supplies and instructions to change a flat tire, but it also contains other “emergency” items like chocolate, nail file, aromatherapy headache remedy and more!"

Working Girl's Survival KitFor your desk
"To survive life's lil' hiccups (static cling, coffee breath, scuffed heels, snagged nylons, headaches, and more) in style, The Working Girl's Survival Kit (housed in a silver train case) is Chock-full of every beauty, grooming and healthcare product a working woman might need in this unpredictable world. You'll never feel unprepared again."

061121-otg-kit.jpgFor your bag
Always be prepared in the car, on a trip or at the office. Life's little mishaps can be solved with the On-the-Go Kit. From sewing kit to stain remover this is a favorite find!

Chocolate aromatherapy for your PMS

I love chocolate and I have been known to use a little sarcasm and dry wit on occasion. Haven't we all? Well the ladies at Chick Wicks know all about it. They've embodied the feminine (sarcastic) spirit with their line of candles and home fragrance.

PMS Mood Tamer (Scented Coping Candle)

A little birdie told me about these candles and I just had to smell them for myself. Luckily, the ladies at Chick Wicks were kind enough to send me a few samples to try out for myself and I couldn't be happier. The soy-based candles are double-wicked in a reusable jar and come packaged in a cute tin decorated with hints, suggestions and even martini recipes that will help you with the situation at hand. These candles come in a variety of scents for a variety of moods/themes including:

PMS Mood Tamer (Scented Coping Candle)
Rid-Ed (Divorce/Break-up Candle)
Snag-a-Man (Scented Love Potion Candle)

I just about lost it after reading the container for the PMS Mood Tamer candle:

"Think PMS stands for Pass My Shotgun? It's that time of the month and you're either crying of locked, loaded and looking for a fight. PMS rage is real; just ask the people who live with you.PMS is nature's little way of bringing all of your issues (big or petty) that usually lay dormant, right to the surface. That's right, your hormones are in the driver's seat and you no longer have the wheel. It's time to be careful. Time to bite your tongue. We're all so glad it only happens once a month, but when your "little friend" has come for a visit, you can burn this candle to warn loved ones and help you through the tough parts. Period."

And the back of the tin is even more hilarious! What a great idea for Christmas!

Black Friday Tip: Don't do it!

I love shopping (Duh!), so when I go shopping I want to enjoy it, therefore I don't usually shop on Black Friday. I don't give into the madness; I go on-line.

Because we Chocolovers like to WEAR our chocolate

Chocolovers by AquolinaWhile at Sephora with Janet recently (we do seem to spend a great deal of time there, don't we?) we came across this lovely little fragrance called Chocolovers by Aquolina. And since we all know I loooooove chocolate, I just had to try it. I sprayed a little on a wand and periodically tested the scent as we went about our shopping. At the end of our trip it was deemed a keeper, especially since upon my return home, Jimbo and the kitties went gaga over it. It's not overly sweet or ridiculously chocolate-scented; it has hints of vanilla, hazelnut and orange. The perfect comforting fragrance for the winter. I think I'll add it to my Kaboodle wish list. You should too!

A little treat for yourself during holiday season

adorably cheerful beaded necklaceI came across this adorably cheerful beaded necklace the other day on Etsy.com. For those of you who don't know Etsy - it's an on-line store where you can buy or sell handmade items. I'm addicted to this place. Now, I'm not a really crafty person - I can design for the web, but I can't knit or sew or wield a glue gun, but boy can I appreciate handmade stuff. And if this necklace doesn't do it for you check out some other items from the same handcrafter from belgium with love.

For those of us who love to lick chocolate off our fingers!

My aunt Darlene just submitted this addendum to "Because we Chocolovers like to WEAR our chocolate".

"For us chocolovers Chocolate Shake-speare nail lacquer is subtle, smooth, creamy... oops! I almost forgot I was talking about nail polish! For a chocolate connoisseur such as yourself Megan, this would be a great addition to your collection of chocolate cosmetics. Also available by OPI is the matching lipliner and lipstick!"

How did she know I had a collection of chocolate cosmetics!?

I was framed! Framed, I tell ya!

This product suggestion is from the photo-queen - my mom.

FrameI love photos so it would only follow that I like frames too! This frame is great, it has seven individual frames hung by hooks from a beautiful nickel-plated bar. It created a gorgeous gallery-style collage with room for 13 photos of various sizes. I received this one (by request) from my children for my birthday and it's hung in our newly-remodeled bedroom.

Flip frameI also love this Flipside Wall Frame from Crate & Barrell - it's so ver-si-tile! Three black frames, two 4x6 and one 5x7, pivot on a wall mounted bar. They can be mounted vertically or horizontally and double-sided frames pivot on a wall mounted bracket, so I can rotate my favorite pictures as the mood strikes. I bought a pair and mounted them over our bed, classy and classic! Now to pick which photos will be showcased!
